CLARA SCHUMANN (1819 – 1896). One of the greatest pianists of her day, far more famous than her composer husband Robert. Touring from the age of 11, she more-or-less invented modern piano technique with a concert career lasting 61 years. Plus - musical advisor to Robert, manager of Robert and keeper of his legacy, family breadwinner, composer, teacher, mentor to Brahms and mother to eight children. A power of nature, in other words. She began her famous piano concerto when she was only 13
