Jazz and Classics for Change

Jazz and Classics for Change was established in the summer of 2019 with the mission, “To connect and to heal through music in our changing world.” President and Artistic Director of Jazz and Classics for Change, Gili Melamud-Lev, spoke with us about the series and their next event, "The Art of the Double Bass," on Saturday, May 23.

Saturday, May 23, at 4 at Tydeman Farm near Hudson, NY

“I’d like to offer these words about why gathering for the purpose of basking in the beauty of music — matters:

‍Especially now, when so much of our attention is pulled outward, fragmented, and unable to settle, beauty invites us into another tempo — one in which we can feel, again, what is whole. Not as an escape from the world, but as a way of remembering what is most alive within it.

‍Perhaps more than any other art form, music creates a field we enter together. We don’t have to agree, explain, or even understand. We simply listen — and in that listening, something in us begins to align, soften and open.

‍‍So I invite you to arrive fully. To listen not only with your ears, but with your whole being. Let the music find you, in whatever way it does.

‍And perhaps, in the field of our shared attention, we will rediscover — if only for this interval — what we truly care about.”

‍—Diane Rossman

Rob Brown comes from a musical family. His mother played piano and taught in this area for nearly 30 years. One uncle is a composer and brass player, one aunt is a professional accompanist and recitalist. And his grandfather had a record collection to rival WMHT’s. He started at WMHT as an intern in 1996. His first job was to go through the stacks of vinyl to make sure they were filed properly. He’s now the Music Director and is thrilled to continue in the “family business” and share more of our very favorite classical music from 1-4 every weekday and 11-3 on Sundays.
