Forbidden Music Regained

In conjunction with Dutch Culture USA, and the Leo Smit Archive in the Netherlands, the Musicians of Ma'alwyck will perform a concert titled Forbidden Music Regained. The archive was established to “regain” the music of Dutch composers and musicians silenced by the Nazi Regime in World War II. A substantial and growing library of music that was discovered in attics, family collections, garden sheds and even garbage bins, this music deserves a voice and an audience. Some of the composers whose work will be performed include Dick Kattenburg, Henrietta Bosmans, Rosy Wertheim, Hans Krieg, Ignace Lilien and Hans Lachman. Ann Marie Barker-Schwartz and Max Caplan from the Musicians of Ma'alwyck spoke with us about the program and performed a couple of works.
