Ed Barker, Principal Bass of the Boston SO, performs the Koussevitsky concerto on Koussevitsky's own instrument on the very day of the Koussevitsky sesquicentenary, July 26 at Tanglewood. Not only that, this Tanglewood season will be his last after beginning there as a young fellow in 1975, newly appointed to the Boston Symphony at the age of just 21, straight out of school. He talks to Charlotte Wilson about highlights of those 50 years: Leonard Bernstein; Seiji Ozawa; the Koussevitsky concerto and the process of reaching a happy partnership with this very special instrument.
Edwin Barker performs Koussevitsky with Andris Nelsons and the Boston Symphony, Friday July 26 2024 at Tanglewood, 8pm at the Koussevitsky Music Shed
