WMHT 2024 HOLIDAY PROGRAMS DESCRIPTIONS

 

A Musical Harvest (11/28/24 11am)
Nearly every culture has a day of giving thanks for the harvest of the previous year. Randy Kritkausky, an enrolled tribal member of the Citizen Potawatomi Nation from Middlebury, VT, hosts this musical harvest, a celebration and exploration of Native American Classical Music.

Every Good Thing (11/28/24 2pm)

On Thanksgiving, host Andrea Blain and classical music fans from all around the country take some time to give thanks and celebrate one of life's most meaningful gifts: music. It's "Every Good Thing" — an hour of stories and music to celebrate Thanksgiving.

Songs of Thanks (11/28/24 7pm)

Songs of Thanks is an innovative new production by Cantus, using their signature narrative programming, the acclaimed octet will weave together stories and songs celebrating gratitude and community.

Most Wonderful Time (11/30/24 4pm)
Artistic Director and Conductor of the Glens Falls Symphony Orchestra Charles Peltz hosts this wonderful program of light classics and favorites for the season.

A Chanticleer Christmas (12/1/24 4pm)

The beloved, Grammy-winning men’s chorus brings its “rich, intricately blended sound” (The Washington Post) to its signature holiday celebration. The centuries-spanning program ranges from Renaissance masterworks to roof-raising spirituals.

The Many Moods of Christmas (12/1/24 6pm)
Jose Daniel Flores-Caraballo, the Opalka Family Artistic Director and Conductor of Albany Pro Musica, and Rex Smith co-host this eclectic mix of choral favorites for the season.

In Winter’s Glow (12/7/24 4pm)

A winter solstice program, with modern classical sounds for the longest night of the year, chosen especially to compliment the chilly, starry nights of the season

Carols as Home with the Imani Winds (12/8/24 4pm)

Carols as Home features a modern take on classic Christmas carols, hosted by Imani Winds founding oboist, Toyin Spellman-Diaz. Toyin coaxes intimate stories of Christmas memories from the members of the ensemble, and why these classic carols are still essential today. You’ll hear many of your favorite carols updated with the ensembles’ own imaginative take.

All is Bright (12/14/24 4pm)
Lynne Warfel hosts an hour of gorgeous, contemplative choral music that tells the traditional Christmas story with songs about angels, the star and the manger scene.

Chanukah Memories and Melodies (12/15/24 4pm)
A new one-hour radio special featuring interviews with artists and public personalities about their Chanukah memories grounded in the music tied to their holiday memories. Guests include cellist Alisa Weilerstein, Broadway actress Tovah Feldshuh, and Eric Jacobsen, artistic director of The Knights.

Welcome Christmas! (12/21/24 4pm)
A perennial Christmas favorite from VocalEssence, one of the world's premier choral groups. Join host John Birge for an hour of traditional carols and new discoveries.

Candles Burning Brightly (12/22/24 4pm)
A one-hour celebration of Chanukah, the Jewish Festival of Lights. Mindy Ratner hosts this holiday favorite and exploration of Chanukah foods and traditional activities - and plenty of music.

A Festival of Nine Lessons and Carols (12/24/24 10am LIVE)
An annual and beloved Christmas tradition, “A Festival of Nine Lessons and Carols” is an extraordinary and memorable live service of word and music from the Chapel of King’s College, Cambridge, England. Hosted by Michael Barone.

St. Olaf Christmas Festival (12/24/24 3pm)
This service in song and word has become one of the nation's most cherished holiday celebrations. The festival includes hymns, carols, choral works, as well as orchestral selections celebrating the Nativity and featuring more than 500 student musicians in five choirs, and the St. Olaf Orchestra. Valerie Kahler shares the sights and sounds of this choral favorite.

"Itzhak Perlman’s Chanukah Radio Party" (12/27/24 2pm)
Itzhak Perlman invites you to his Chanukah Radio Party. Join the superstar violinist as he tells the story of the Jewish festival of lights, and shares his favorite recordings for the holiday – some serious, some silly.
