Joan Tower

Joan Tower

Celebrated American composer Joan Tower, 86, presents a daily series of podcasts presenting her choice of 31 women composers through history for the 31 days of March. From Hildegard of Bingen, the medieval abbess, to a 12-century troubadour countess who has left only 5 spicy love songs; from Fanny Mendelssohn whose works, published under her brother’s name, have been misattributed for centuries to a French prodigy who was the first great publishing success; right through to a pioneering feminist and the flourishing composers of the modern day. Recorded at Joan Tower’s home in Red Hook, features written and produced by Charlotte Wilson.

11am daily, repeated 7pm weekdays
