Pianist Kirill Gerstein

Fascination for musical discovery combined with boundless curiosity, imagination, and virtuosity have established Kirill Gerstein as one of today’s most prolific and compelling performers. Kirill Gerstein is coming to the Troy Savings Bank Music Hall, performing as part of the Troy Chromatic Concert Series on Saturday night, January 24. We spoke with him about the program, works by the two pillars of the so-called "War of the Romantics"— Liszt & Brahms.

Liszt: Three Petrarch Sonnets

Liszt: Après une lecture de Dante: Fantasia quasi Sonata, S. 161 No. 7

--

Brahms: Scherzo in E-flat minor, Op.4

Brahms: Piano Sonata No. 3 in F minor, Op. 5

Rob Brown comes from a musical family. His mother played piano and taught in this area for nearly 30 years. One uncle is a composer and brass player, one aunt is a professional accompanist and recitalist. And his grandfather had a record collection to rival WMHT’s. He started at WMHT as an intern in 1996. His first job was to go through the stacks of vinyl to make sure they were filed properly. He’s now the Music Director and is thrilled to continue in the “family business” and share more of our very favorite classical music from 1-4 every weekday and 11-3 on Sundays.
