Berkshire Bach St John Passion

Berkshire Bach presents the St John Passion for Easter at the Troy Music Hall – Johann Sebastian’s first great Passion, the one that established his reputation, composed for his first Easter in Leipzig Good Friday 1724. This is the first time that Berkshire Bach have performed it since 1995, with tenor Gene Stenger as the Evangelist and the Berkshire Bach Choir conducted by James Bagwell. James talks to Charlotte Wilson about why it is such a foundational piece for him, what the premiere must have been like at St Nicholas's, what Bach would have made of the acoustics in Troy, and the glorious drama and passion of this greatest of all choral works

Charlotte Wilson has been immersed in classical music all her life. Her parents were great music lovers, always had something playing on the radio or turntable, and she began on recorder and then piano before she can remember. Charlotte originally wanted to be a concert pianist but just didn’t quite have it, no matter how hard she practiced! She tried many other instruments slightly too late (violin, cello, clarinet) before discovering radio. Charlotte can be heard from 4-8pm weekdays and 10-2 on Saturdays.
