The world famed pioneers of Baroque opera, Les Arts Florissants and their director William Christie. the very people responsible for bringing the names Lully and Rameau and Charpentier back into the world, are returning to Tanglewood on Wednesday to perform the very work that gave them their name: Les Arts Florissants by Marc-Antoine Charpentier, in a double bill complete with dancers and Le Jardin des Voix, the academy for young voices that Christie founded more recently in Caen in Normandy. He’s lived in France since 1970 though American born (in Buffalo NY, celebrating his 82nd birthday this year), and tells us all about the history of this ensemble (including the performance before François Mitterand and the Reagans) - the story of their name, his love affair with France, and how he brings baroque French opera alive
