Angela Hewitt London 2016

Maverick Concerts this Sunday features one of the great pianists of our age. Angela Hewitt, renowned for her definitive Bach recordings which she began in the 1990s, 27 albums of J S Bach alone, and every single note he ever wrote for the keyboard in her fingers. Bach’s city, the city of Leipzig, awarded her the Bach medal, she has Canada’s highest honor and Britain’s OBE as well as countless recording awards and honorary degrees: and here at Maverick she will be playing a program of Bach, of course, along with the French composers she is also renowned for and Schumann’s great opus 22.

She joins us to talk about Bach, how to play Bach, opening up emotionally, and the unifying theme behind this coming program

Charlotte Wilson has been immersed in classical music all her life. Her parents were great music lovers, always had something playing on the radio or turntable, and she began on recorder and then piano before she can remember. Charlotte originally wanted to be a concert pianist but just didn’t quite have it, no matter how hard she practiced! She tried many other instruments slightly too late (violin, cello, clarinet) before discovering radio. Charlotte can be heard from 4-8pm weekdays and 10-2 on Saturdays.
