A Tribute to all who serve
Veteran’s Day is commemorated at Bard College with the New York State premiere of a special new song cycle for America 250: Letters From The Front by composer and saxophonist Patrick Zimmerli, a song cycle for a quartet of singers and pianist based on centuries of letters from American soldiers at the front and described in one review as “a grand musical tapestry of American history, hope, faith, aspiration, despair and optimism in time of war.”
There is already an album out on the Lexicon Classics label, executive produced by the pianist, Chicago-based concert pianist Ian Gindes who commissioned the work and is also himself a major in the Illinois Army National Guard. He joins us on the phone from Chicago IL to discuss this moving new work.
