Journalist and author Amy Biancolli was raised in a home filled with music. Her mother was a featured violinist on a global stage, and her father a renowned music critic and author — but to Amy, they were simply mom and dad. But a recently unearthed recording of Amy’s mother, Jeanne Mitchell, performing Beethoven’s Violin Concerto in D with Eugene Ormandy and the Philadelphia Orchestra, has given Amy, and the world, the opportunity to hear her mother’s incredible musical voice once again. She spoke with WMHT’s Mary Darcy about her incredible mother, her indomitable spirit, and how she overcame the sexism that derailed her global career to share the joy of music throughout her lifetime.
